| Green Slime (Ooblik) |
Purpose: To provide students with experience in making observations and inferences and to learn to distinguish between solid, liquid, and gasMaterials
Procedure
- prepare slime before class
Recipe for slime:
- 1 box of cornstarch
- water
- food coloring
- flavoring (mint, cherry) optional
- Add water to cornstarch to desired consistency (not too dry and not too wet).
- Restore materials and clean.
- Add food coloring and flavoring. Mix well.
- Store in an airtight container.
- 1 10" X 10" square of waxed paper per student
- 1 spoon per student
- 1 sealable sandwich bag per student (optional)
- Give each student a square of waxed paper.
- Place a small amount of green slime onto the waxed paper.
- Ask the students to make observations and record what they observe.
- Ask students if the slime is a solid, liquid, or gas.
- Ask students to make inferences.
- Discuss the properties of the slime.
- Pass out the sealable sandwich bags and have students place their slime in the bag to either take home or to keep for future use. (Students may discard after use.)
- Restore materials and clean.
