| The AceAir Challenge |
"The AceAir Challenge" can be used in conjunction with The Case of the Challenging Flight or as a stand-alone PBL activity. In it, students are challenged to design an aircraft. The fictitious company AceAir is looking for a new plane that will be capable of flying a small number of people between two cities. As aircraft designers, students create their proposed aircraft by choosing various parts, including wings, the tail, landing gear, and a propulsion system.Throughout the activity, students conduct research related to the four forces of flight and learn about the different parts of an airplane in preparation for their design challenge. Students then develop their airplane and submit their design for review by AceAir.
