The NASA SCIence Files™
PBL Activity: Life on Mars?
"Life on Mars?" can be used in conjunction with The Case of the Inhabitable Habitat or as a stand-alone PBL activity. In it, students are challenged to help NASA better understand what types of life they should look for when the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) explores the surface of Mars in the future.

The students take on the role of an astrobiologist and are responsible for reviewing research articles and creating a life form with features that might allow it to survive on Mars. They must share their findings with their class by doing a final report which reflects their knowledge of the extreme environments that exist on Mars and the features necessary for a life form to survive there..
