| PBL Activity: Spaceflight Meteorology |
"Spaceflight Meteorology" can be used with The Case of the Phenomenal Weather or as a stand-alone Problem-Based Learning activity. In it, students are challenged to track a tropical system that exists off the coast of Africa and help NASA officials determine the outcome of a scheduled Space Shuttle launch.The students take on the role of meteorologists and are responsible for researching weather systems, implementing hurricane-tracking software, and preparing a Space Shuttle Weather Forecast report. The final products are to be presented to NASA officials at Kennedy Space Center for consideration in executing the Center's hurricane plan.
Passwords are provided for the online game Storm Trackers to allow different groups of students to work on their own set of five plots without having to do the preceding plots.
- To start at plots 1-5: no password, just click "Begin Game"
- To start at plots 6-10: use hurricane as the password and click the "Go" button
- To start at plots 11-15: use landfall as the password and click the "Go" button
- To start at plots 16-20: use advisory as the password and click the "Go" button
