Fact, Opinion, Pure Speculation
Scientists make a hypothesis, which is an estimate or "educated guess," to solve a problem based on facts, observations, and available data. The tree house detectives also use these practices in solving problems to help organize their investigation. The hypothesis is the starting point of an investigation and is followed by careful observations and the gathering of facts and data to prove or disprove it. During the validation stage of the investigation, the tree house detectives work to determine if their hypothesis is based upon fact, opinion, or pure speculation.
