Get Me Down From Here

Purpose: To design a way to get Jacob safely out of the tree house

Background

At the end of the show, Jacob is stuck in the tree house. The detectives did not think about getting him safely back down once they got him up there. Your job is to solve the problem of how to get Jacob down from the tree house.

Procedure

1. In your group, brainstorm some ideas on how to get Jacob safely down from the tree house. Brainstorming rules are provided on the NASA SCI Files™ web site http://scifiles.larc.nasa.gov/
2. Use the Problem Board to determine what you know, what you need to know, and where you will go to get the information.
3. Conduct the necessary research and come back together as a group to discuss your findings.
4. Continue to use the problem - solving tools and techniques until your reaches comes a consensus on how to get Jacob safely down from the tree house.
5. Once you have agreed, use the Basic Design Log to design your apparatus for getting Jacob down.
6. Create a model of the apparatus.
7. Present your design and model to the class.
