| Scientific Process Log |
Concept: Record the scientific processes or steps taken during the investigation.Purpose: Apply the scientific method as a tool for solving a problem.
Strategy
- Print out the log or record the information on the board for students to record in their science journals.
- Discuss the problem that is to be investigated and ask students to record the problem or question they are investigating.
- Facilitate a class or group discussion that raises questions the students have about the problem. Ask students to log the questions in the box provided or in a science journal.
- Review the different resources available for research and monitor students as they develop a brainstorm map of possible topics that will help shed light on the questions they recorded.
- As students research, encourage them to record a possible hypothesis.
- Prepare a workstation or area for students to select materials and conduct experiments. Remind them to record the procedures and results of their experiments in the box provided or in a science journal.
- Meet with students to discuss their data and conclusions and provide feedback and direction as needed. Tell students to record their conclusions in the box provided or in a science journal.
- Wrap up the investigation process by encouraging self-evaluation and the process taken to solve the problem.
Fill in the appropriate steps of the scientific process taken throughout your investigation.
