The NASA SCIence Files™
Spacey Scavenger Hunt

Case Introduction
Welcome, detectives! Everything you need to get started in your investigation is at your fingertips! Click the links below to learn the problem situation, your role, and the criteria for the case. Be sure to review the steps in the problem-solving process!

Here's the Situation!
You are currently on a mission aboard the space shuttle when suddenly a warning sensor goes off. You are informed by mission control that you have lost your navigational equipment. The only way for you to get back home is to find RE-turn ROBOT, a safety precaution NASA deployed in case of a navigational failure. The robot has a tracking beacon that will guide your shuttle to him. There is one problem though. Mission control believes that RE-turn ROBOT has been hit by space trash and is located in a number of places in our galaxy and beyond.
To return you need to find all the robot pieces. Once you return, you will need to debrief Mission Control to explain what it was you saw when you traveled to each location. NASA really needs all your info to plan future journeys. You will be learning all of the keys to space travel in the future, so do your best to make Mission Control proud.

Your Role in the Case!
You are an astronaut. You will need to use your raw skills to track down the robot that can guide the shuttle home. The only way to do it is to follow the tracking beacon. Once you get there, you will have a number of tasks to complete.
When you complete all the tasks for that site, there will be a mini quiz. If you pass, you will receive the piece of the robot at that location. The quizzes are not the only way you are going to show the knowledge you gain though. While completing each of the tasks you will need to keep you research in your problem log. Once you return to Earth, you will have to present to Mission Control your findings. You will be responsible for reporting to them all the information from the tasks you complete.

The Criteria for the Case
You need to use the computer on your spacecraft to find out what your tasks are for each level of the game. The tasks will be accompanied by links to sites on the Internet where you can find the information to complete the tasks. Once all the tasks for the level are complete, you will take a quiz on the topics. If you pass, you will receive a part of the robot, and be transported to the next location. When you finally return home you will be responsible for presenting your findings to mission control. They will use your information to plan future trips, so you need to do your very best.
