Here's the Situation!
You are a scientist working with the NASA SCIence Files™ tree house detectives. The tree house detectives' neighbor smells an unpleasant odor as she enters her house. She is planning to have a dinner party in just a few days and needs your help in sniffing out the stink. The neighbor suspects the stink is coming from the kitchen, living room, bedroom, or the garage. You will need to investigate each room in the floor plan and record data in a Logbook.

Your Role in the Case!
You are a scientist! A scientist is curious about the world and explores it by using a certain technique and method. This method is known as the scientific method. Use the resource provided to investigate each room in the floor plan, identify the source of the odor, and give an explanation as to why it's the cause of the stink.

The Criteria for the Case
Use your scientific inquiry skills to collect data from each of the rooms in the floor plan and determine the cause of the stink. Keep the following criteria in mind as you clear up this "stinky" situation.

• Develop a plan of action.
• Keep a journal that includes investigative questions, important issues, and resources in the Problem Log provided.
• Produce a final report that informs the neighbor of the cause of the stink and show data recorded in the Logbook that support your conclusion.
